The North-Central Province consists of two districts namely, Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa. Anuradhapura is the capital city of North Central Province. The province is very famous among Buddhists in the world since places of Buddhist worship such as Sri Maha Bodhi and Ruwanweliseya are situated in this province. Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa are among the eight World Heritage Sites of Sri Lanka. The ancient city of Polonnaruwa remains one of the best planned archaeological relic sites in Sri Lanka.
