Temple of the Tooth (Sri Dalada Maligawa)

 Sri Dalada Maligawa is the most sacred place for the Buddhists in Sri Lanka as well as the Buddhists around the world because it houses the one of the two surviving tooth relics of Lord Buddha. The tooth relic is kept in the upper floor in the chamber called “Vadahitina Maligawa”  The door of “Vadahiti Maligawa” is covered with gold silver and ivory.  The Kandy Esala Perahara also known as Dalada Perahara  is conducted by Dalada Maligawa.

Peradeniya Botanical Gardens

Peradeniya Botanical Gardens also known as Royal Botanical Gardens increase its beauty by the near by Mahaweli river.  Peradeniya Garden is world famous for its Orchid plantations.  In addition to that garden includes more than 4000 species of plants.  The total area of this garden is 147 acres.  More than 2 million people from all around the world visit Peradeniya Gardens annually.

Udawatta Kele Sanctuary

During the Kandyan Kingdom, Udawatte Kele was known as “Uda Wasala Watta” meaning of this is “the garden above the Royal Palace”.  Most of the times the King must have had his leisure time in this place.  And also Udawatte Kele is about 257 acres large.  There are many variety of plants, shrubs and small trees. Many of different sizes of mammals and several types of reptiles can be seen in the Udawatte Kele.

Ceylon Tea Museum

The Ceylon Tea Museum occupies the 1925 vintage Hantane Tea factory.  There are exhibits on tea pioneers such as James Taylor and Thomas Lipton, and lots of vintage tea-processing paraphernalia.  There are much experienced guides available to explain the whole process. Finally you can have a delicious cup of tea from the top floor tea room.

Gadaladeniya Temple

Gadaladeniaya Temple is a Buddhist Temple build by king Buwanekabahu in 1344 during the Gampola Kingdom.  The  temple is in the top of a small mountain.  The chief architect of this temple was  a south indian called Ganesvarachari. Therefore  it takes a South Indian design.

British Garrison Cemetery

British Garrison Cemetery also known as Kandy Garrison Cemetery was created for British nationals who died in Sri Lanka, those days named as Ceylon.  It was established in 1817 after British captured the Kandyan Kingdom.    The cemetery contains 195 graves of men, women and children.
