Arugam Bay

Arugam Bay is a beautifully created bay by nature in the Indian Ocean, south east coast of Sri Lanka.  There are fantastic surf breaks in and around the Arugam Bay.   In addition to have the experience of surf there attractive wild life, religious places and many more special places to visit in Arugam Bay.

Deegavapiya Temple

Deegavapiya temple is one of the most important sixteen places to worship in Sri Lanka for Buddhists.  Because Lord Buddha visited Deegavapiya and stayed for some times.  Lord Buddha visited Sri Lanka 3 times and on the third time HE visited Kalaniya Viharaya, Sri Pada and Diwa Guhawa. On HIS return journey Lord Buddha has stayed in Deegavapiya.

Ruins of Ampara – Rajagala Monastery

Rajagala Monastery is very important for Buddhists because it is believed that Mihindu Thero’s (who brought the Buddhism to Sri Lanka in King Devanampiyatissa’s time) body has been buried in Rajagala. In addition there are more than 500 ruins and artifacts of a Buddhist temple in Rajagala.  The history of the place is not definite, but there are some “Shila Lipi” (stone inscriptions) belonging to the period of 10th and 3rd centuries BC

Pottuvil Lagoon

Pottuvil Lagoon is one of the famous sight seen attractions in Sri Lanka.  Pottuvil Lagoon is rich with monitor lizards, crocodiles, kingfishes, eagles, peacocks and monkeys.  And also some times there are tamed like elephants.  Bird life in Pottuvil is fantastic which includes spoonbills, stilts, several kinds of kingfisher, sea eagles, pelicans and herons.
